Work Package 3: Setting Up Networks for Collecting of Metadata

This work package focuses on identifying reportable infectious diseases using the IDSR system in Ethiopia, monitoring and collecting epidemiological and clinical data from clinical sites and hospitals, developing standardized specimen management tools and SOPs, collecting data from health facilities, community, and animal stocks, conducting translational clinical research on Salmonella typhi using genomic epidemiology, and conducting Focus Group Discussions at pathogen genomic sites involving 240 people.

  • 1. To collect basic information from sites (geo-coordinates, patient turnover, capacity of beds, availability of essential supplies, ambulance).

    2. To collect clinical and epidemiological information (metadata) from the linked sites.

    3. To collect diagnostic data for infectious diseases listed in the IDSR.

    4. To undertake translational clinical research demonstrating the application of genomic epidemiology to inform public health decisions.

  • 1. SOPs development.

    2. Study protocol development.

    3. 1st study subject approval package by IRB.

    4. Study registry at ICMJE approved.

    5. Midterm recruitment report.

    6. Report on the status of posting results.

    7. Focus group discussions.
